Vegan and Vegetarian Athletes

Vegans and VegetariansMany athletes choose to pursue special diets out of ethical or philosophical rationale as opposed to purely what is most effective for their performance. Vegans and vegetarians, in particular, often consume foods which do not provide enough of key nutrients to support their active lifestyle, and as a result can have much higher injury rates than the ‘normal’ athletic population. By focusing the diet on foods they can consume which provide superior amounts of these nutrients, and appropriately supplementing, vegans and vegetarians can better protect their body.

Other diets, like the Paleo Diet, do not predispose an athlete to greater injury, but still need to be tweaked in order to maximize performance. Regardless of your special dietary concerns, I am equipped to address the specific insufficiencies that may be present and optimize your diet for the health and performance needs of an athlete!
